Maldives has called on the United Nation’s General Assembly to ban arms sales to Israel.
The UN General Assembly met on Tuesday to discuss the issue after Israel vetoed a Security Council resolution on February 20 calling for an immediate cessation of hostilities against the Palestinians.
Dr Ali Naseer Mohammed, who represented the Maldives in the debate, called for a ban on the sale of weapons to Israel.
Ali Naseer said on behalf of Maldives:
-
The use of the veto in the UN Security Council gives further encouragement to Israel to continue its actions
-
Israel killed and wounded more than 100 Palestinians in the February 29 incident
-
The whole world should be ashamed of the failure to stop Israel from killing Palestinians after having deprived them of water, food and basic necessities
Israeli soldiers shot and killed several hungry people and children in Gaza on February 29 as they gathered for food aid.
According to the Gaza health ministry:
-
At least 112 people were killed and 750 injured
-
The Palestinian Foreign Ministry described the attack as a massacre
Israel's genocidal attacks on Gaza continue, and the number of people and children dying of starvation in Gaza is increasing day by day, creating a humanitarian crisis like nothing the modern world has seen.
The government has repeatedly said that Maldives will always stand with the Palestinian people and will do everything in its power to advocate and help its people.
