Vice President Hussain Mohammed Latheef has told Atoll Times on Tuesday that he has not yet moved to ‘Hilaalee-Ge’, the official residence reserved for the Vice President, and said that his move is delayed due to some repair work that is still underway.
The Vice President was responding to a question from Atoll Times regarding the Channel 13 story about him that was shared on X. Thus:
-
Citing a reliable source, Channel 13 wrote that the Vice President had left Hilaalee-Ge because of President Mohammed Muizzu's "spying" and “disturbance”; the report also claimed he has moved to his apartment in Hulhumale
-
According to the news, the Vice President is being spied on through Mohammed Waheed Hassan, a family member of President Muizzu, who has been appointed as the Chief of Staff of Hilaalee-Ge
"There is absolutely no truth to this. I urge you not to corrupt the society by making up such lies," the Vice President wrote in a post on X on Tuesday, quoting Channel 13's news.
When asked further about the post, the Vice President said that when he took office, Hilaalee-Ge was in dire need of renovation. He said:
-
Water was leaking from the roof of Hilaalee-Ge, "the whole place was in very bad shape"
-
So, the roof had to be removed altogether
-
Now the work is going swiftly and has almost come to an end
"It looks like the whole place will be completely cleared of work in a few days. [And] the whole place will be cleaned and moveable in a week. So I'm looking at moving in during Ramadan”, the Vice-President said.
The vice president said he is now living in the apartment he used to live in before.
"I'm just impatient [to move to Hilaalee-Ge]. Living at home, [traffic] near the house gets very congested. It is because of the protocol in place which can cause inconvenience to the general public as well, so I am raising that concern," he said.
He is referring to his protective detail when out in the public, which could in fact cause some traffic congestion.
The Vice President said he had no problem with either President Muizzu or Hilaalee-Ge's Chief of Staff Waheed. He also said that he had no concern about the appointment of Waheed to the post.
"He is a very good person. I call him Bodaa. I have known him since before I started working in politics. He is a very good person. He will consult me if there is anything. He is very close to me”, Sembe said, when asked about the appointment of Waheed to the post.
"Hopefully there will be no such [dissatisfaction] within our leadership. We are very united," he added.
