The feasibility survey for the bridge coming up between Hithadhoo and Hulhumeedhoo in Addu has been completed, President Mohammed Muizzu said on Saturday.
The first 14 weeks of the government's roadmap includes plans to start the works required for the Addu Bridge Project. MVR 30 million has been allocated for the survey of the project.
Speaking at a campaign event for the ruling PNC candidate for the Hulhudhoo constituency, the President said the first feasibility survey to be conducted to start the implementation of the project has now been completed.
"The feasibility work of the project has now been completed. Now we have to do various calculations on the survey and the rest of the feasibility. Once that is done, we will start the practical work," he said.
The President added that the project will start this year as promised. The President asked the people not to believe the opposition’s talk about the bridge project.
The President said such talk was made even when the Sinamale Bridge project started.
The bridge is not just being built for 30 people to ride their bikes on, he said, adding that the bridge will bring “multiple development” to the entire Addu city and the south.
The Arab Contractors, an Egyptian state-owned company, has been awarded the design and feasibility study for the proposed bridge to connect Addu atoll. The company was awarded the contract on the 19th last month.
