A medical check-up package for people over the age of 35 has been introduced on Monday.

It is one of incumbent President Dr. Mohammed Muizzu's presidential pledge to provide medical check-ups to Maldivians through the government's insurance scheme, Aasandha. As per the pledge, the Cabinet had in December approved a provision for medical check-ups from Aasandha.

From the first day of this year, people over the age of 50 will be able to get medical check-ups through Aasandha.

Aasandha announced the package for people over the age of 35 to get medical check-ups in a statement issued on Monday.

Aasandha also said that special tests to be conducted for students of specific grades designated by the Ministry of Education will also be conducted by government hospitals through Aasandha.

Aasandha added:

  • There were some difficulties in implementing the medical package introduced in January and the age groups and packages have been changed accordingly

  • From Monday, a package for people over 35 and a package for people over 40 have been added

  • Cancer screening tests other than those scheduled to be done within a certain period of time will be done once a year under the scheme

  • Tests that need to be done within a certain period of time will also be done under the scheme if the doctor recommends them

Medical check-ups under Aasandha are available at health centres, regional and atoll hospitals in the Atolls, outside the capital Male.

Medical check-ups can be done at Hulhumale Hospital, IGMH and Villimale Hospital in the Male region.

If a second medical check-up is required within a year, it can be done with a doctor’s advice:

  • The second check-up can be done six months after the first

  • Checkup includes blood, urine, stool tests and ECG
