NSPA transfers key welfare services to Aasandha
The minister expressed the view that the change would make it easier for the public to access services.
The National Social Protection Agency (NSPA) has transferred a number of its services, including medical welfare assistance, to Aasandha.
According to state media PSM, citing Health Minister Geela Ali, the changes will take effect from Monday.
Under the new arrangement, five main services previously provided by NSPA will be managed by Aasandha. These include public services related to medical treatment, services connected to medical tests and specialised medical equipment, healthcare services for Maldivians living abroad, referral and emergency patient services, and assistance provided in special circumstances, including follow-up care for thalassaemia and bone marrow transplant patients, as well as outpatient support for private medical treatment.
Minister Geela said the move is intended to provide access to medical assistance through a single service provider.
She said the current system requires applicants to submit information separately to both Aasandha and NSPA, creating difficulties for service users. According to the minister, the transfer will allow information to be maintained in one place and improve the administration of assistance programmes.
The minister also expressed the view that the change would make it easier for the public to access services.
The Ministry of Health stated that, from Monday, responses to applications previously submitted to NSPA for assistance will be handled by Aasandha. Information related to these services will also be provided by the company.
