The current government has decided to convert more than 1,300 lots allotted from Giraavaru lagoon under the Binnveriya scheme under former President Ibrahim Mohammed Solih's administration to Gulhi lagoon.

The decision was taken by the Ministry of Housing, announced in the gazette on Saturday.

According to the announcement, the decision was taken because the land was allocated in Giraavaru without adequate room for essential services in the area.

"With these services set up, the land use plan of Giraavaru will be changed and some of the land allocated will be transferred to Gulhi,” the statement said.

The announcement also includes details of the number and size of the lots to be transferred. They include:

  • 193 lots of 1250 sqft

  • 663 lots of 1650 sqft

  • 487 lots of 2050 sqft

  • 4 lots of 2450 sqft

That totals 1,347 lots

The ministry has also decided to allow plot transfers from Giraavaru to Gulhi at the behest of those that were awarded land. The announcement said:

  • The opportunity is open from 9 am Sunday until the 14th of this month

  • Application for transfer of land to Gulhi can be made through the Hiyaa Portal link

"In case the number of applicants seeking transfer is higher than the mentioned figure, the beneficiaries of the land from Gulhifalhu will be selected by drawing lots and the ministry will announce the date later," the notification added.
