Foreign ministry in a statement calls on Israel to abide by international human rights and humanitarian law and the measures ordered by the ICJ.

Maldives government late Friday called on Israel to comply with the World court's order to halt the military offensive and allow urgent humanitarian aid to the besieged city.

Judges at the World Court, also known the International Court of Justice (ICJ), ordered Israel on Friday to halt its offensive in Rafah governorate. It marked a landmark emergency ruling on a case brought by South Africa accusing Israel of genocide in its assault on the Gaza Strip.

The Court also ordered Israel to ensure unimpeded access to the Gaza Strip for any commission of inquiry or fact-finding mission to investigate the allegations of genocide.

But the World Court has no means to enforce its orders, and Israeli war cabinet minister Benny Gantz said Israel would continue its "just and necessary" war against the Hamas militant group to return its hostages and ensure its security.

"Government of Maldives reaffirms that a lasting solution for the Palestinian people is through the establishment of an independent and sovereign state with pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital," the ministry said in its statement.
