EU to provide EUR6.5 mln for Maldives' blue economy initiative

The European Union (EU) has signed an aid agreement to provide EUR 6.5 million (MVR 109 million) to Maldives to support blue economy initiative.
The agreement, ‘Improved Biodiversity Management to Support a Blue Economy in the Maldives' under EU’s Multi-Annual Indicative Programme (MIP) 2021-2027, was signed at the Fifth EU Senior Officials Meeting held at the Foreign Ministry on Sunday.
The Foreign Ministry said:

The EUR 6.5 million program under the MIP is mainly dedicated to the protection of biodiversity with the aim of improving the management capacity of the various protected areas in the country

After the signing of the agreement, Foreign Minister Moosa Zameer met with Paola Pampaloni, Deputy Managing Director for Asia and Pacific at the European External Action Service
During the meeting, Minister Zameer thanked the EU for its extensive assistance to the country’s economy and climate change issues. He expressed gratitude to EU for implementing projects on green recovery, good governance, and other various support measures through MIP.
Minister Zameer also discussed ways to make Schengen visa easily available, according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
