Late Shareef was generous, good-natured, Shaheem says
Islamic minister Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed said that businessman Hussain Shareef who passed away Sunday afternoon was a generous and good man who spent money on building mosques.
Shareef, who is the leasehold owner of OZEN RESERVE Bolifushi, passed away Sunday afternoon.
Shaheem shared details of his first meeting with Shareef two months ago.
In a post on social media, Shaheem shared information about the meeting held at the Islamic Centre:
-
At that meeting, Shareef presented a proposal to re-enlarge and dome the Ibrahimi Mosque in Male at his own expense; the proposal has been approved by the ministry
-
If more mosques are needed in the country, he will help
"[Shareef] asked, how much do you want? When we told him the expense of building mosque, he said he would arrange it immediately," Shaheem wrote.
"That day I thought how generous people are in Maldives. Shareef is so generous. May Allah reward Shareef. May Allah build him a palace in paradise."
Shareef died while undergoing treatment at IGMH in Male. However, no further details regarding his age and condition are yet known.
Shareef is the main shareholder of Gateway Maldives, which has leased Bolifushi for resort development. The company was founded in 1994.
Before the Covid-19 outbreak, the resort was operated by the UAE's Jumeirah. Since then, the resort has now been operated by Atmosphere Core, which already operates nine resorts in Maldives and is working to expand its business to countries such as India and Sri Lanka.
In addition to Bolifushi, Shareef has also been involved in various tourism businesses.
Shareef is the half-brother of Ibrahim Shareef Mohammed, Managing Director of the Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), which operates the Velana International Airport (VIA).
