Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed has announced his decision to rejoin the Adhaalath Party, which he helped establish and served for several years.
Shaheem made the announcement Wednesday via a post on his official X account. He stated that he would also be contesting in the party’s internal elections scheduled for later this year.
“I have decided to rejoin the Adhaalath Party where I served for many years as a senior founder of the party. I will contest the internal elections to elect a new president of the party later this year,” he wrote.
Shaheem departed from the Adhaalath Party in 2017. Following his exit, he joined the political campaign of then-President Abdulla Yameen as his running mate in the 2018 presidential election. He later served as an advisor to the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM).
His return to Adhaalath comes ahead of internal restructuring efforts within the party. No official comment has been issued by the Adhaalath Party as of now.
