The power outage in M. Muli has been resolved within two days and the island has now returned to normal, the island council said on Friday.

Muli has been without power since 8am on Wednesday due to a problem with two generators of the Fenaka branch. With it, schools and businesses had to close.

The electricity problem was resolved at around 3am on Friday, island council vice-president Ahmed Sakif told Atoll Times.

“A brand new 600 kW generator, which was brought to the island about five months ago, has been supplying electricity since yesterday afternoon," he said.

According to Sakif, the power supply was so delayed because the generator was not connected and other methods were used to solve the problem. Later, a new generator was connected by a team from Faafu Atoll, he said.

The Human Rights Commission (HRCM) on Thursday expressed concern over the delay in getting electricity to Muli.
