The statement said that the investigation by the Fenaka and the Ungoofaaru Council revealed that the incident occurred when a street light had electrified the puddle of water at its base, having some of the safety features required incomplete. The lamp was not equipped with an Earth Leak Circuit Breaker (ELCB) or Miniature Circuit Breaker (MCB).
"The investigation further revealed that ELCBs have not been installed in many islands where Fenaka is providing electricity services," the statement said.

Under the Utility Regulatory Authority Act, Fenaka has been ordered to pay MVR 50,000 to the authority within 30 days.
In addition, Fenaka has been asked to install all safety measures on street lights in other islands within 30 days if not installed. The statement also ordered to suspend power to all street lights until the work is completed.
