Fenaka takes over Ungoofaru public powerhouse
The powerhouse in Ungoofaru, which has a population of some 1,800 people, had been operated by the island's residents for some 24 years.

Fenaka Corporation on Wednesday took over the powerhouse previously operated by the residents of Ungoofaru island in the northern Raa atoll along with island's water and sewerage services.
At a ceremony held in Ungoofaru Wednesday afternoon, an agreement was signed between the island council and Fenaka to hand over the services.

Managing Director of Fenaka Ahmed Saeed signed the agreement on behalf of the company.

President of Ungoofaru Council Abdulla Rasheed signed the agreement on behalf of the council.
The letter of transfer of employees of the powerhouse in Ungoofaru to Fenaka was also handed over. The documents were handed over to the employees by Fenaka chief Saeed.
Speaking at the ceremony, planning minister Mohamed Aslam said that there will be no islands in the Maldives without water and sewerage systems by April or May next year.
Aslam hailed the government's speed of development projects as unlike anything that the Maldives has witnesses in its history. Development projects are being carried out in each island, he added.
"This is a breakthrough even with all the political differences we have," Aslam said.
