Survey for Maldives first happiness index begins
The index is usually calculated based on ten variables, or areas of life.
Maldives’ Happiness Index has begun to be calculated.
Local Government Minister Adam Shareef Umar announced this in an X post on Wednesday.
In the post, the minister said he was pleased to include the Islamic University of Maldives as a research partner to develop the country's Happiness Index.
He also noted that many ideas were exchanged from different perspectives at the workshop held at IUM on Wednesday to discuss how to formulate the index.
The Happiness Index is a comprehensive survey instrument that assesses happiness, well- being, and aspects of sustainability and resilience of people living in that country. The index is usually calculated based on ten areas of life. They are:
-
Mental wellbeing
-
Physical wellbeing
-
The amount of time spent in all areas of life
-
Opportunities to learn, practice art and culture
-
Community relationships and generosity
-
Social support
-
Degree of environmental bond
-
Perception of government
-
Standard of living
-
Economic prosperity and income
So far, no index has been developed to measure happiness specifically for Maldives.
