A study on the introduction of a toll on the Sinamale Bridge and the linking highway is set to begin next month.
The toll was included in the Fehi Male programme launched Wednesday evening to address the increased traffic problems in Male.
A reasonable toll will be fixed and implemented after consultation with relevant agencies for sustainable maintenance of bridges and highways. The studies are scheduled to start next month.
There was talk of charging a toll before the China-funded bridge, which links capital Male city with the airport island of Hulhule and the suburb of Hulhumale opened in September 2018. However, the later government of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih decided not to charge the toll.
