Hisaan appointed MDP vice president

Former Judicial Service Commission (JSC) President Hisaan Hussain has been appointed as the Vice President of the country's largest opposition party, the Maldives Democratic Party (MDP).
The MDP's X account announced Hisaan's appointment and congratulated her on Wednesday evening.
According to the post, which was accompanied by a picture of Hisaan shaking hands with party president Abdulla Shahid and party chairperson Fayyaz Ismail, Hisaan was unanimously appointed as Vice President by the party’s National Assembly.
With the amendment to the party's constitution brought by the MDP at its congress in August 2022, the post of Vice President is not openly elected. Thus:

According to Article 64 of the amended Constitution, the post of Vice President is appointed by the Party President; however, it must be done with the consent of the National Assembly

If the party president's nomination does not receive the approval of the National Assembly, another person must be nominated
When Shahid took over as MDP President last February, the post of Vice President remained vacant. The position was previously held by the current Vice President of The Democrats, Mohamed Shifaz.
Hisaan, who is also the legal director of the MDP, was appointed to the post after taking into consideration the fact that there are few women in the party's leadership.
“Considering the many sincere services that Hisaan Hussain has rendered to this party and its members, I think she is the most suitable person for this post,” Shahid said of the former MP from Thulhaadhoo constituency.
Shahid said he accepted Hisaan's nomination for the post of MDP Vice President and sought the support of the National Assembly members.
