Parliament approves Habeeb appointment to rights body
Habeeb left the Elections Commission in March after serving two terms.

Parliament on Wednesday approved the appointment of former Vice President of the Election Commission Ismail Habeeb to the vacant post as member of the Human Rights Commission of Maldives (HRCM).
The HRCM membership fell vacant after Dr Ahmed Adhuham Abdulla, who was earlier the Vice President of the commission, resigned from the post in October. The president sent his name for approval for the post on July 15.
The parliamentary committee on human rights on Tuesday interviewed Habeeb and approved him.
When the committee report was put to the vote in Wednesday's session, Habeeb's appointment was approved by 74 members. Three MDP members voted against. They are:

The MDP members who voted in favour of appointing Habeeb to the post are Dr Ahmed Shamheed from Hulhumale South constituency and Hanimaadhoo MP Abdul Ghafoor Moosa only. Some other members were present but did not participate in the vote.
