Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) has commenced night out-patient department (OPD) services with the aim of reducing long queues for doctor appointments.
Previously, consultations with specialists at IGMH were only available during regular government working hours.
Speaking in his Rayyithunna Eku podcast, President Mohamed Muizzu confirmed the introduction of night-time OPD services and said the move is intended to ease congestion, particularly for commonly treated conditions.
“Now the night OPD has been started at the IGMH. This will greatly reduce the queue. This will reduce the queue for the most frequently treated diseases,” he said.
The President also noted the following updates at IGMH:
-
Medicines are now available for inpatients
-
Recruitment is ongoing for 218 positions, most of which are nursing roles
-
Expansion work is underway to increase hospital space
While IGMH has not issued an official statement, CEO Ibrahim Abdul Razzaq Haleem told some media outlets that the service began on Sunday. According to Haleem, the new OPD services are available from 8:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.
