President Mohamed Muizzu will not be ousted from power in Bangladesh in the manner in which Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was ousted from power by taking to the streets, speaker of the parliament and the ruling party’s chairperson Abdul Raheem Abdulla said on Tuesday.
Abdul Raheem said this while speaking at the PNC headquarters on Tuesday evening.
Abdul Raheem said there are Maldivians with Dhivehi blood running in their veins and they will not allow the government to be overthrown in that way.
Abdul Raheem said, “We will not sit idle if the independence of this country, the security of this country, the sovereignty of this country and the economic wellbeing of the people are messed with”.
He said he had the courage to face anyone and say whatever needed to be said. He said that no one else has that much courage.
“If you ask them to protest, [former Vice President Mohamed] Jameel [Ahmed] will not be seen, [former Minister] Maleeh will not be seen, [former Police Commissioner] Hussain Waheed will not be seen. [Former] President [Abdullah] Yameen will not take to the streets. He is not of the breed to take to the road for political work. We will know best, how he stays home in his shorts,” he said.
"So don't try to do to this country what was done in Bangladesh. That can't be done, there are Maldivians here with Maldivian blood running in our veins”.
Prime Minister Hasina has resigned and fled following mass protests started by youth. Nobel Peace Prize winner and banking expert Mohammad Yunus has been appointed as the head of Bangladesh's interim government.
