STELCO hits back at 'irresponsible' ex-Pres Yameen's bill comment
STELCO issued a statement yesterday asking people not to make "irresponsible statements" about the company.

STELCO on Saturday responded to former President Abdulla Yameen's remarks about the way it takes readings and bills households.
Yameen's party, PNF, held a meeting at its office where Yameen was unhappy with STELCO.

However, the growth is not used by the common man and may be due to the construction of new buildings and major electricity consumption works in the city
“Someone has to take this case to court now... They are not going to households to take readings, they are charging this tax from the common man,” he said.
STELCO issued a statement asking people not to make "irresponsible statements" about the company.
In the statement, which did not mention Yameen, STELCO said:

Customers will not be billed for electricity they do not use without taking a reading.

Every month, STELCO goes to households, takes metre readings and prepares bills and sends them in good faith

It is hard work that the employees are doing within the framework of strong rules and regulations

STELCO employees take readings on the same basis as other customers and are billed for those readings.
"We assure the people that the company will not act in violation of these rules. It is regrettable that some people are spreading rumours that the company is acting in violation of these rules," STELCO said in a statement.
"The company strongly condemns the spread of such irresponsible stories that damage the image of the company among the people.”
