Former Vice Chief of Defense Force, Brigadier General (Retired) Farhath Shaheer, has been appointed as the new Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company Limited (MIFCO), the state-owned tuna company.
The appointment, announced by the Privatisation and Corporatisation Board (PCB) on Wednesday, comes after Dr Vitaly Lyubimoy was dismissed from the position on Monday.
"For the information of all parties, Brigadier General (RT) Farhath Shaheer has been appointed as the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company Limited," the PCB confirmed in a social media post.
Farhath Shaheer brings extensive leadership experience to his new role at MIFCO. He previously served as the CEO of Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) during the administration of former President Abdulla Yameen.
His military career saw him rise to the position of Vice Chief of Defense Force under former President Mohamed Nasheed’s government. He retired from the Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) on February 29, 2012, after more than 30 years of service, following the political transition on February 7 of that year.
