Ahmed Shamah Rasheed, who was sacked as CEO and Managing Director of the state-owned fish company Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO), has now been appointed as a State Minister at the Ministry of Fisheries, Marine Resources and Agriculture.

Presidential Office Senior Spokesperson Heena Waleed confirmed this to Atoll Times on Wednesday, that Shamah has been appointed as a State Minister of Fisheries.

Shamah was appointed on Wednesday.

The Privatization and Corporatization Board (PCB) did not say why Shamah was sacked as CEO of MIFCO on Tuesday evening.

Shamah was suspended in March last year in connection with a case being investigated by the PCB. His suspension was lifted on 24th last month after 37 days.

Regarding Shamah's suspension, the PCB had earlier said that cases related to him had been reported to the PCB and an investigation had been initiated into the allegations.

The PCB has received complaints about concerns in the operation of MIFCO and had asked the company to rectify the issues.

MIFCO had also sent a letter to Shamah following complaints received by the PCB's whistleblower portal alleging that he is using MIFCO resources for personal purposes and violating company policies.
