President Mohamed Muizzu has announced that more than 300 development projects will be signed within the next two weeks, including projects open to the private sector.

Speaking at the official opening of M. Muli Airport on Tuesday, the President said that a significant number of projects initiated by the previous administration had stalled for various reasons. He stated that efforts are now under way to restart many of those projects, alongside the launch of new ones.

“We have already signed 390 projects, which include new initiatives and the revival of incomplete work across the country,” he said.

According to the President, these projects have been awarded primarily to government-owned companies. Some contracts are being handed over to companies established or mobilised within local communities to reduce implementation costs.

“All government agencies are working in coordination to ensure that the projects begin without delay,” the President said.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to delivering on pledges made to communities across the Maldives.

The President further said that another 20 previously halted projects are expected to be signed shortly, followed by an additional 300 projects within the coming weeks.

He projected that between 700 and 800 projects will be awarded to companies from February to the two months that follow.

President Muizzu said the projects will be implemented accordingly.
