The Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has expanded the number of venues in Hulhumale available for public ceremonies and events.

The corporation last week announced revisions to the regulations governing the allocation of spaces for such activities. Under the changes, additional venues have been designated for hire alongside those previously available.

Central Park, one of the busiest public areas in Hulhumale, will be available for MVR 258,941 per day. Permitted activities include stage shows, meetings, expos, cultural and social events, children’s programmes, birthday celebrations, wedding receptions, and business promotions conducted by registered entities. Specific sections of Central Park may also be hired separately.

Other newly allocated venues include the ferry terminal park, Ruhgandu 1 and 2, Hiyaa Park in Phase 2, and the barbecue beach area in Phase 2. These spaces will be available for birthdays, weddings, children’s events, and cultural programmes.

Political activities will be permitted only at Ruhgandu 2 and 3.

Under the updated regulations passed on the 6th of last month, applications for space bookings must be submitted through the Main Hulhumale portal. Each application will incur an administrative fee of MVR 150. Security deposits will now be refunded within 15 official days, extended from the previous five days, provided no breaches are identified.

Fines starting at MVR 500 will apply for violations of lease terms, with the amount determined by the severity of the breach.
