Fees charged for containers sent to regional ports from Male Commercial Harbour and Hulhumale International Terminal have been reduced.

The change came into effect on Friday, the Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) said in a statement.

With this, a 25% discount will be given on handling, wharfage, stevedoring and handling charges of containers sent to regional ports from Male Commercial Harbour and Hulhumale International Terminal.

The reduction in domestic transshipment fees will reduce the cost of importing goods and clearing them from ports, MPL said. This will bring a positive change in the price of goods shipped to the northern and southern ports.
