MDP leadership, councillors attend conference in Kulhudhuffushi

Opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) councillors and leadership are participating in a conference Saturday.

The photos released by the MDP highlight the attendance of the party's chairperson Fayyaz Ismail and former Vice President Faisal Naseem at the conference.
MDP Deputy Chairman Ibrahim Waheed told Atoll Times that the purpose of the conference is to strengthen the activities of party councillors. It includes discussions among MDP councillors from the three northernmost atolls.
The conference will take place in Kulhudhuffushi from 9 am to 4 pm. Sessions from 11 am onwards will be broadcast live on MDP's social media platforms.

“We will discuss the changes brought to the decentralisation system by the MDP government and those proposed by the PNC government,” Ibrahim Waheed said.
The MDP and some of its councillors have raised concerns regarding a new Urban Development Act, which the government has submitted to parliament. The law grants the ministry the authority to plan atoll infrastructure, prompting apprehension from some within the MDP ranks.
