Aishath Azeema has been nominated for the post of Maldives' high commissioner to India.

Her nomination was announced in the new session of the parliament, which broke from recess on Monday.

The current Maldivian high commissioner to India is Ibrahim Shihab. His term is nearing completion.

Azeema has now been referred to the parliament's foreign relations committee for review.

Azeema, currently the Additional Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, served as Maldives' ambassador to China from 2019 to 2023.
