Parliament's Security Services Committee, known as the 241 Committee, on Monday approved the release of information regarding the number of employees and their salaries at the official residence of the speaker of parliament.

This decision came after President Mohamed Muizzu intervened, requesting a review of the committee's earlier decision on Monday not to disclose the details.

Following the president’s request, the committee convened a second meeting on Monday afternoon, after initially deciding to keep the information confidential.

The meetings were held behind closed doors.

The committee resolved to disclose the number of employees working at the Muraidhoo House, the official residence of the speaker, along with the expenses incurred.

The motion to release these details was proposed by committee member Ibrahim Falah, and all but one member supported the motion.

Speaker Abdul Raheem Abdulla moved into the residence on July 25, following renovations.

In late July, journalist Adam Haleem was appointed as the chief of staff of the residence. Additionally, Ali Ashfaq, a prominent figure in Maldivian football, was appointed as the head of the house last month.

The decision to designate a special residence for the speaker of parliament was made after the bombing on May 9, 2021, which targeted former President Mohamed Nasheed while he held the position of speaker.
