MTCC on Monday introduced Electric Vehicle (EV) buses to be used in Male as part of the recently-launched mini-bus service.
MTCC said:
-
Six EV buses were brought to the capital on Monday
-
These are small buses with a seating capacity of 11
-
All these buses will be rolled out for the bus service launched by the company in the city
Currently, 12 buses are being used in the city's mini-bus service, and they require diesel to run. With the addition of these six new buses, the total number of buses used in Male will go up to 18.
According to MTCC, the new buses are in line with President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's target to achieve net zero by 2030.
Adam Azim, CEO of MTCC, had earlier said:
-
The company had initially decided to start the mini-bus service with EV buses
-
Since the economy was in bad shape, diesel buses were brought in, instead
-
Going forward MTCC will slowly add more to their EV bus fleet.
