NSPA says TV channel linked building rental on protocols
The rent for these two floors is alleged to match the cost of four storeys of the building rented for MM TV's operations.
The National Social Protection Agency (NSPA) has addressed claims circulating on social media regarding the rental of a building for its operations.
In a statement issued on Friday, NSPA said the building was rented following established protocols. The agency refuted allegations suggesting that part of the building had been rented at a loss to the state or provided to another party without charge.
Social media discussions have alleged that two floors of the four-story building rented for NSPA operations were also leased for the operations of MM TV, a recently launched channel aimed at promoting government activities.
According to the claims:
-
Maldives Media House, which operates MM TV, and NSPA signed a five-year rental agreement worth MVR 34.8 million.
-
The agreement reportedly involved leasing two floors of a 1,200-square-foot office space to NSPA for MVR 580,000 per month.
-
The rent for these two floors is alleged to match the cost of four storeys of the building rented for MM TV's operations.
NSPA has not disclosed further details regarding the agreement but reiterated its adherence to required protocols.
