President pledges to maintain subsidies, pensions, Aasandha benefits
President Muizzu highlighted measures taken to improve the economy and reduce reliance on printing money.
President Mohamed Muizzu on Sunday assured citizens that the government will not cut subsidies, Aasandha health benefits, or retirement pensions.
Speaking during a meeting with the residents of AA. Mathiveri, the president outlined the government's approach to economic management and reaffirmed commitments to social welfare.
President Muizzu highlighted measures taken to improve the economy and reduce reliance on printing money. He emphasised that the government's Maldives First foreign policy aims to foster beneficial relationships with other countries to achieve economic progress.
“We will not reduce any subsidy currently received by citizens. We will not cut Aasandha or pensions. Instead, we aim to improve them,” the president stated.
Regarding the planned salary increases, the president said adjustments will be made for civil servants and employees in the judiciary who have not yet received raises. Salary increments for other sectors will also be implemented.
“Our policy is to increase revenue without removing existing benefits, without printing money, and without bankrupting the country,” he said.
The president also discussed plans to reduce unnecessary expenses and redirect funds toward economic and infrastructure development. He reiterated the government’s intention to stop illegal expenditures rather than reducing benefits for citizens.
Citing concessions on electricity and water bills during Ramadan this year, President Muizzu said the government would continue to provide similar assistance whenever possible.
