The 18-year-old motorcyclist injured in a collision with a police car in Hulhumale early Friday morning had his driving license confiscated for traffic violations prior to the accident, according to police.
The man, a Maldivian national, sustained serious injuries and is currently on a ventilator at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH).
In a statement Friday afternoon, the police confirmed that his license had been seized on Saturday for violations of the Road Traffic Act. Further details about the violations were not disclosed.
Police also said that the investigation is examining whether the officer driving the police car was negligent in the incident.
The collision, which occurred in Hulhumale Phase 2, remains under investigation.
