Parliament will reconvene on February 6 after a two-month recess, with President Mohamed Muizzu set to deliver the presidential address during the opening sitting.
Inguraidhoo MP Ibrahim Falaah, leader of the ruling People's National Congress (PNC) parliamentary group, which holds a supermajority, confirmed the date.
This will be President Muizzu's second presidential address and his first address to the 20th parliament. His inaugural statement was delivered during the first sitting of last year’s parliament.
As mandated by the constitution, the presidential address provides an overview of the country's current situation and outlines the president's vision for further development.
In addition to the February 6 session, two extraordinary sittings are scheduled for January 16 and 20 during the recess. These sessions will focus on the approval of nominees for two vacant posts in the Elections Commission (EC) and two vacant seats in the Broadcasting Commission (Broadcom).
