Heavy rains cause flooding in Male for second weekend
Last weekend, heavy rains also flooded Male, causing damage to homes and property.
Heavy rains have caused flooding in Male since Friday evening, marking the second instance of severe flooding in the city within a week.
The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) has been deployed to manage the situation, installing pumps in eight areas to drain floodwaters. As of 10 am on Saturday, 13,882 tonnes of water had been discharged. Additional measures include laying sand bags in two locations and providing assistance to 46 households affected by the flooding.
The National Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for heavy rains and thundershowers from Shaviyani Atoll to Thaa Atoll. Male recorded the highest rainfall in the past 24 hours:

The forecast predicts continued showers in the northern and central regions of the Maldives until 6 pm, with some areas experiencing heavy rainfall and thundershowers.
Last weekend, heavy rains also flooded Male, causing damage to homes and property. Approximately 30,000 tonnes of water were discharged during the earlier operation. The authorities continue to monitor the situation and provide assistance to affected residents.
