MET issues warning of tidal surges, heavy rainfall
The public and marine vessels are advised to take necessary precautions.
The Maldives Meteorological Service (MET) has issued a warning of tidal surges across the country due to expected heavy rainfall and high tides.
According to the MET Office, rain is forecast across most regions of the Maldives, with peak rainfall expected around 4 p.m. Saturday. Thundershowers are also expected in several parts of the northern atolls.
Parts of the central Maldives are expected to experience varying weather conditions throughout the day, while conditions in the south are forecast to remain relatively stable.
Winds are expected to reach speeds of up to 35 miles per hour during periods of cloud cover. Sea conditions are projected to become moderately to increasingly rough in the afternoon.
Wave heights are anticipated to range between two and five feet, and the MET Office has also forecast the possibility of hail during the rainy season.
The public and marine vessels are advised to take necessary precautions.
