Two individuals were rescued on Friday morning after their dinghies were stranded at sea near GDh. Madaveli, police said.
According to police, a report was received at 8:39 a.m. that a dinghy was adrift off the coast of Madaveli. A joint search and rescue operation was launched by the Maldives Police Service and the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF).
During the search, another stranded dinghy was also located in the same area. Both vessels were assisted back to Madaveli with MNDF support.
Police stated that one of the boats was found capsized, but the two individuals onboard were unharmed and remained safely with the vessel. They were located by the police search team.
The rescued individuals are a 40-year-old man and a 66-year-old man. Police confirmed they are in stable condition.
The incident occurred as the Maldives Meteorological Service issued a weather advisory for all regions of the country. Heavy rain, thunderstorms, and winds up to 45 miles per hour are expected, with gusts reaching 50 miles per hour in some areas. Authorities have advised the public to take necessary precautions.
