Maldives Broadcasting Commission (Broadcom) on Wednesday elected Safa Shafeeq as its new president.
The election was held among the commission's board members following the expiration of the chairperson's term in December.
Safa Shafeeq was the sole candidate for the position and was unanimously elected by the board.
Safa was appointed to Broadcom on May 9, 2023. She holds a Master's degree in Social Policy from the National University and a Master's degree in Communications from Limkokwing University, Malaysia. Safa has been associated with TVM as a presenter since 2006.
The commission recently welcomed two new members, Mohamed Abdulla and Aimina Sarahath Izzath, who were appointed following the expiration of terms for former President Mariyam Waheeda and member Ali Yousuf. The appointments were approved by the parliament during an extraordinary session held on Thursday.
