Police seize 103 boxes, some with tobacco, from cigarette factory

Police have seized 103 cardboax boxes from a suspected cigarette manufacturing facility in Male following a raid on Thursday.
The operation was carried out at a residence on the first floor of H. Hulhugali, where a cigarette manufacturing and sealing facility was reportedly in operation. Police began searching the premises at approximately 7:30 pm.
In a statement issued on Friday, police confirmed the seizure of 103 cardboard boxes during the raid. Among the confiscated items were boxes with tobacco, police added.
Acting on a tip-off, police also searched the office of a private company in the city, suspected of manufacturing cigarettes. Large black boxes were removed from the premises and transported in a police vehicle.
The cigarettes produced at the facility are identified under the brand name HD. They are packaged similarly to various types of imported cigarettes and are labeled accordingly. The brand is known to be sold at a lower price compared to other cigarettes available in the market.
Authorities have not disclosed further details regarding potential legal action or arrests related to the case.
