
GA. Villingili doctor in Male for woman, newborn's death probe
The doctor is a Nepalese national.
A woman and her newborn died in labour on Thursday at GA. Villingili.
The deceased were identified as Shiuna Thaufeeq and her third child. The mother did not regain consciousness after giving birth in the morning and remained on a ventilator until nightfall.
Shiuna passed away while being taken to GA. Kooddoo Airport. The child was transferred to Male for treatment but did not survive.
Ali Shameem, Manager of GA. Villingili Atoll Hospital, confirmed that a doctor involved in the case had been sent to Male on the orders of the Ministry of Health. The doctor is a Nepalese national.
"The Health Ministry is investigating the matter. He was sent to Male on the orders of the Health Ministry," Shameem said.
Some residents of Villingili expressed concerns about delays in the air ambulance service and the provision of treatment. A group gathered near the hospital in protest.
