A case involving Ismail Latheef, a doctor at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) and husband of Supreme Court Justice Dr Azmiralda Zahir, has remained with the police for months, according to reliable sources.

Latheef was arrested in December in connection with an incident at a massage parlour. Meanwhile, the full bench of the Supreme Court, which includes Azmiralda, has commenced hearings on a constitutional amendment issue.

The Prosecutor General’s Office (PGO) has begun discussions on whether to proceed with charges. At this stage, the case has been advised to remain on hold without filing charges.

Following speculation on social media about his arrest and allegations that Azmiralda attempted to influence Criminal Court judges, Latheef addressed the matter on X on Tuesday.

Latheef confirmed that he regularly receives massages and acknowledged that he was arrested. However, he stated that his wife had no involvement in his release and only learned about the incident when he was presented in court for a bail decision.

Latheef said he was released due to a lack of evidence, claiming that police admitted in court that they did not believe he had committed an offence.

“The police have stated in court that they do not think I committed any crime. No one has influenced anyone, nor was there any need for such influence,” his post read.

Neither the police nor the PGO have issued an official statement on the matter.
