The woman sustained burns to 83% of her body, while 78% of the man’s body was affected.
A specialised medical team has arrived from abroad to provide treatment for two individuals who sustained severe burns in a fire on AA. Rasdhoo island last week.
Both individuals, aged 31, suffered extensive burns. The woman sustained burns to 83% of her body, while 78% of the man’s body was affected. They remain in critical condition.
According to Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH), two burn specialists have been brought in from abroad to treat the patients in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). The team has begun treatment.
“Both are in serious condition and are on ventilators. However, every effort is being made to save their lives,” IGMH spokesperson Hawwa Afeefa stated.
Due to the severity of the burns, doctors initially assessed the chances of recovery as low. However, five days after the incident, family members have reported gradual progress.
The fire resulted in severe injuries but caused limited damage to the room, with the doorknob and a section of the room being affected. The circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear.
The police have launched an investigation into the incident.
