Parliament held only one sitting during the current open week, following the final 10 days of Ramadan and the Eid al-Fitr holidays.

No additional sittings have been scheduled for the remainder of the week.

The week began with a parliamentary sitting on Monday. However, no sessions were held on Tuesday or Wednesday, and none are scheduled for Thursday.

Parliament is typically in session three days a week—on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays.

Although no sittings are scheduled for the remainder of the week, some parliamentary committees are continuing their work. The parliament has 18 standing committees, but only a few have scheduled meetings over these two days.

Three committees were scheduled to meet Wednesday:

  • Foreign Relations Committee: To work on matters referred to it by the parliament

  • Independent Institutions Committee: To conduct an interview with former Hanimaadhoo MP Mohamed Mujthaz, nominated by President Mohamed Muizzu for appointment to the Civil Service Commission

  • Public Accounts Committee (Finance Committee): To consider matters submitted to the committee

The parliament secretariat has not issued a statement explaining the limited activity this week. The majority party in the parliament, the People’s National Congress (PNC), has not provided a comment.
