HDC to complete additional Hiyaa lifts by year-end
The project cost is estimated at USD 18 million (MVR 278.3 million).
The Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has announced that additional lifts will be installed in all towers of the Hiyaa Flats in Hulhumalé by the end of this year.
According to HDC, new lifts have already been installed in Towers 1, 2, and 3. These are scheduled to become operational on the 12th of next month.
The contract to install the additional lifts was awarded to China’s Shenyang Yuan Intellectual Group. Each tower will receive two new lifts, which are being installed using an additional steel structure in the lobby areas.
The Hiyaa housing project consists of 16 towers. Once completed, the towers will have a total of 32 new elevators in addition to existing ones. Each tower will also include an additional lift for passengers and stretchers.
The project cost is estimated at USD 18 million (MVR 278.3 million).
The decision to add more lifts follows complaints from residents about delays and congestion, particularly during peak hours. The towers, each comprising 25 floors, currently accommodate more than 25,000 people. There are presently 54 lifts in total, or three per tower.
