The Sub-Committee 7 of the State-Owned Enterprises (SOE) Committee in Parliament on Monday decided to gather detailed information on the activities and projects undertaken by the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) and the Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation (FDC).

The decision was made during a meeting as part of the committee’s review of the operations of both entities.

The motion to question HDC and FDC was initiated by Ahmed Nazim, the Dhiggaru MP and deputy speaker, who proposed several key issues to be clarified. His proposal aimed to obtain specific details regarding the corporations' ongoing and future projects.

Nazim outlined the following areas where information will be sought from HDC and FDC:

  • Overview of all active projects and initiatives led by both companies.

  • Schedules, completion timelines, and the challenges faced during execution.

  • Clarification on the progress of FDC’s commitment to complete the construction of 4,000 flats.

  • Confirmation that all the flats under the Hiya and Vinares projects have been rented out as planned.

  • Assurance that the companies are properly managing the assigned responsibilities related to these flats.

  • Information regarding FDC’s transfer to become a subsidiary of HDC, along with relevant updates.

  • Clarity on whether HDC plans to exit its operations in Gulhifalhu.

The sub-committee decided to submit a formal written request to both companies based on the issues raised by Nazim, as confirmed by Mohamed Ali, the MP representing the Gahdhoo Constituency. Ali informed the media that the request has already been issued, emphasising the importance of gathering accurate details to assess the companies' performance.

Meanwhile, Ahmed Shakir, another member of the sub-committee, clarified that although he did not participate in the vote, the focus on FDC’s integration into HDC is a significant matter for the review.

However, Shakir added that he had not yet received the meeting minutes and was unsure whether the inquiry into the 4,000-flat project was finalised.
