
Commission members to get MVR 5000-15000 allowance
The commission is tasked with conducting an independent and credible investigation into the incident and assessing the conduct of relevant state institutions.
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced that members of the Presidential Commission established to investigate the incident involving Hawwa Yumnu Rasheed will be paid a monthly allowance ranging from MVR 5,000 to MVR 15,000.
The five-member commission, titled the President’s Special Commission, was set up to examine the circumstances surrounding the fall of 21-year-old Yumnu onto the roof of a house in Malé. The commission is tasked with conducting an independent and credible investigation into the incident and assessing the conduct of relevant state institutions.

At a press conference held on Saturday, President Muizzu confirmed that each commission member will be provided with an allowance for their work. He stated that Dr Munawwar and the healthcare professional on the commission will receive MVR 5,000 each, while the remaining three members, who are not currently in other employment, will each receive MVR 15,000.
Regarding the operational budget for the commission, President Muizzu stated that all necessary resources would be made available. He also noted that if the commission required the support of international experts, the government would facilitate their involvement.
The commission has been granted several powers, including:

The authority to obtain cooperation from all state institutions and relevant parties

The ability to seek assistance from foreign experts

The right to exercise powers defined under the Criminal Procedure Act, similar to a law enforcement agency

The capacity to request court orders, including those related to arrests and criminal investigations

The ability to summon individuals for questioning and to obtain necessary documents and materials
Additionally, the commission is authorised to review findings, documents, evidence, and other relevant information gathered by other parties in relation to any ongoing or completed investigations involving the same case.
