The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has denied reports claiming that the Government of Singapore has issued a travel advisory urging its citizens to avoid travelling to the Maldives except for essential purposes.
According to some media outlets, Singapore had advised its citizens against non-essential travel to the Maldives.
In response, the Foreign Ministry issued a statement on Sunday refuting the claims, noting that the Singaporean government had confirmed no such advisory had been issued recently.
The Ministry clarified that a statement currently circulating on social media is not a current travel advisory from Singapore. It said the dissemination of inaccurate information about countries with which the Maldives maintains diplomatic relations could negatively affect the public and the national economy.
The Ministry called on local media to verify information before publication and to avoid spreading unverified reports concerning partner nations.
According to the Singapore Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ official website, the most recent travel advisories issued pertain to Jammu and Kashmir and Pakistan. Previous advisories last month were related to Nigeria, Bangladesh, and Nepal.
