The Presidential Inquiry Commission has questioned Raud Ahmed Zilal in connection with the fall of 21-year-old Hawwa Yumnu Rasheed from the ninth floor of H. Fentenoi onto the roof of H. Mitaz on the 18th of last month.

Raud, who was with Yumnu at the time of the incident, is currently in police custody.

The Commission confirmed via X that he had been questioned as part of its investigation into the circumstances of the fall. The Commission was formed by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu to probe the incident.

Raud was arrested a week after the incident. His remand has been extended three times — first for five days, then ten days, and most recently for another five days on Saturday. According to police, he tested positive for cannabis.

Police initially stated that no one apart from Raud was involved in the incident. However, an arrest warrant was later issued after it was reported that there had been a dispute between him and Yumnu on the night she fell.

At a recent press conference, Yumnu's family claimed that she had mentioned the presence of four other individuals in the house that night, in addition to Raud.

Prior to the incident, Yumnu had attended a party at an apartment in MA. Maandhooge Dhekunuge, the family residence of Transport Minister Mohamed Ameen. Public interest in the case grew after the police did not disclose the name of the house and stated that no action could be taken as the partygoers refused drug testing.

There have been public concerns over possible interference in the investigation. Minister Ameen has denied any involvement, stating that he has not influenced the investigation and that the location of the party is unrelated to him.
