CCTV footage has shown a man entering a house near the Galolhu mortuary shortly before a fire broke out at the property on Wednesday.

The fire began at around 11:00am at a two-storey house, which residents said was unoccupied and had no electricity supply.

Footage obtained by Dhauru shows a man arriving on a Honda Wave motorcycle and entering the house minutes before the fire started.

Residents said the house had been assigned to individuals for cleaning, and foreign workers had been removing items from the property since around 9:00am.

According to residents, some items had been taken out of the house during the cleaning process.

The footage shows the man entering the house at 10:33am and leaving at 10:39am. He remained inside for about seven minutes.

Sources said the man moved to the first floor, while workers were on the second floor.

“No workers inside the house could see where he entered. The workers were on the second floor. The first smoke started coming from the first floor,” a source said.

The footage shows the man looking back at the building before leaving on his motorcycle. Smoke was seen rising from the house shortly after he left.

According to the timeline:

  • 10:33am – The man enters the house

  • 10:39am – The man leaves the house

  • 10:40am – Smoke is seen from outside the building

  • 10:40am – Workers inside leave the building after being alerted

Residents said the house contained furniture, including items for children.

“It is believed that it was set on fire. It will not burn by mistake,” a resident said.

The fire was brought under control after more than one hour.

Authorities said the house was destroyed in the fire, and nearby buildings were also affected.

Police have not yet confirmed the cause of the fire.
