Maldives, Thailand ink MoU on healthcare development

Maldives and Thailand have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at bolstering human resource development in the healthcare sector, along with cooperation in several key areas. The agreement was signed on the sidelines of the 78th World Health Assembly in Geneva, Switzerland.
The MoU was signed between the Maldives Ministry of Health and Thailand’s Ministry of Public Health. Representing Maldives, State Minister for Health Hadija Abdullah signed the document, while Deputy Minister of Public Health Dash-Sheed Kauthon represented Thailand. The signing ceremony was also attended by Maldives Health Minister Abdullah Nazim Ibrahim and WHO Southeast Asia Regional Director Saima Wazed.
According to a press release from the Maldives Health Ministry, the MoU covers five major areas:

Strengthening primary healthcare services in Maldives

Enhancing the regulatory services of the Maldives Food and Drug Authority (MFDA)

Advancing health sector human resources

Improving health policy, health systems research, and health information technology

Supporting innovative and sustainable financing mechanisms for the health sector
Minister Nazim described the agreement as a significant milestone in the Maldives–Thailand partnership, particularly in the field of health. “This MoU is an important achievement and marks a new chapter in our collaboration,” he said.
