The Maldives Police Service has said that the family of Hawwa Yumna Rasheed, who sustained injuries after falling from the ninth floor of a building on 18th of last month, has not allowed investigators to question her as part of the ongoing investigation.

According to a statement released by police Thursday, Yumna is currently receiving medical treatment in Malaysia. Police said they are prepared to take her statement with the cooperation of her family.

Two members of the Maldives Police Service, including a medical doctor, have been stationed in Malaysia since Yumna was transferred there for treatment.

“Despite repeated attempts to establish contact, the family has not cooperated with the investigation,” the police statement said.

Police added that the family has not shared medical information or updates following her admission to the Malaysian hospital.

The police said the investigation team continues to work on the case and is currently collaborating with Malaysian authorities in accordance with local laws to obtain necessary information.

Raud Ahmed Zilal, who was present at the time of Yumna’s fall in H. Fentenoiy house, was arrested and has since been released.

Prior to the incident, Yumna had attended a gathering at an apartment in MA. Mandhooge Dhekunuge. The case drew increased public scrutiny after it was revealed that the police initially did not disclose the location of the event — a property linked to the family of Transport Minister Mohamed Ameen — and did not take action against attendees who refused to undergo drug testing.

The incident has prompted public demonstrations, with individuals gathering outside the Henveiru Sergeant Adam Haleem Building, which houses the Criminal Investigation Department, demanding progress in the case.

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has formed a special presidential commission to investigate the incident.
